Election Information
The March 10, 2026, Special Election for RTA Next will be conducted by mail.
Dates to remember:
- Monday, Feb. 9 – Last day to register to vote – Click here to register.
- Wednesday, Feb. 11 – Ballots mailed to all registered voters
- Tuesday, March 10 – Election Day, ballots must be received by Pima County Recorder’s Office no later than 7 p.m.
- Recommended deadline to mail back your ballot – Tuesday, March 3 (Postmarks Do Not Count.)

Ballot Information
Two questions will be on the ballot for Pima County voter consideration:
- Proposition 418: asks voters to approve a new regional transportation plan (RTA Next).
- Proposition 419: asks for a sales tax to go toward regional transportation County.
- If both propositions are approved, you will continue to pay the same in taxes since the current tax is replaced with the new funding.
- Both ballot items must be approved for the regional transportation plan to be implemented over the next 20 years with initial projects starting during the first year of the plan. The new plan would go into effect on April 1, 2026.

RTA Next details:
The proposed $2.67 billion RTA Next plan for voter consideration March 10 will provide funding for improvements to the region’s transportation network across all forms of mobility for the next 20 years. The RTA provides nearly two-thirds, or 60%, of regional transportation funding.
Funding breakdown:
- $1.2 billion (+741M in non-RTA funding) | Roadway (Multimodal) Corridors
- 31 corridor improvement projects including 4 freeway interchanges, roadway lane capacity enhancements, bus pullouts, bike lanes, pedestrian facilities, drainage improvements
- $257 million (+237M in non-RTA funding) | Roadway project modifications/completion
- 7 projects from the 2006 Regional Transportation Authority plan have revised scope descriptions or funding needs that require voter approval
- $254.6 million | Safety, ADA and Active Transportation
- Intersection enhancement and modernization: Traffic signal technology upgrades, bikeways, sidewalks, greenways
- $177.6 million | Pavement Rehabilitation
- Curb-to-curb rehabilitation of regional roadway corridors
- $50 million | Environmental
- Wildlife linkages to reduce vehicle-animal collisions in highly traveled natural wildlife habitat areas
- $726 million (+228M in non-RTA funding) | Transit Expansions
- Expanded services: Weekend and evening bus service, increased bus frequency, paratransit/dial-a-ride, neighborhood shuttles to main bus system, express service to employment centers; high-capacity transit development, streetcar operations, safety and security of the regional transit system
